| I Ned Stark, son of Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, select players from Houston, Iowa State, Kentucky, and Auburn. |
Just two weeks ago we were all confidently devising strategies while huddled around our computers or a copy of a bracket printed on the corporate computers. This year was the year we figured it out. Last year we went too much on data from sports nerds. The year before that, we followed our hearts too much. But this year, we had the right balance.
Unfortunately, it turns out, most of us are about as effective as Ned Stark solving a mystery. Robert has brown hair, but kids no have brown hair? I'll take a Houston player. Finkle is Einhorn? UK has a lot of talent, I'll take a Wildcat. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? I'll take the Gators!
Most of us are failures. We are not real geniuses and there will be no university accolades for us. We're not even Real Men of Genius (enjoy having that jingle in your head the rest of the day). We're just suckers throwing our money for a small taste of glory, which is the American way. And, damnit, there's no better feeling than patriotically spending money on this tournament in a sort of communion with all American sports fans. (Fans of American sports, not sports fans who are American. This blog embraces diversity.)
At the top of our mountain right now is biake, who is sitting on 761 total points. biake has Zach Edey from Purdue and Mark Sears from Alabama left, both of whom are the most scoringest of the player from their seeds. biake also nailed the top #2 (Dalton Knecht), #3 (Terrence Shannon Jr.) and #5 (Jaedon Ledee) as well.
Sitting in second with 751 points is Better Late than Never. Where as biake has a chance to have two finalists (or zero), BLtN has Edey and DJ Horne from NC State. One entry is guaranteed to move on to the finals.
In third and projected to finish in first by our sloppy projection system is whatdude1 with 751 points. whatdude1 has Edey, Sears, and Horne, which means he's guaranteed at least one player in the finals. If Horne scores 12, it looks like this thing is over.
Sitting in 5th with a chance to break into the top three is Dorsey's First Round Exit with 739 points. If Alabama and NC State make the finals, DFRE has a shot to rise into 2nd place.
Good luck to everyone!
